About Us

From its humble beginnings, through the years of experimentation, adaptation and expansion, BJC continues to move onwards, showing its willingness to take on any challenge. The following are notable dates in the Company's history:

1946 -Acting on an offer by his employer, Bazil Cocksedge sets up his own element production in a small shed in the backyard of his home in Rongotai, Wellington.

1950 -Expansion demanded a shift to larger premises. A derelict wooden building in Kent Terrace is purchased and renovated before moving in.

1958 -Toolroom staff design, develop and build a toaster element winding machine that enables production of 600 toaster elements a day, when most similar firms are still hand-winding elements.

1961 -Full production of tubular elements begins, and subsequently a new Industrial Specials Department is established to manufacture large scale heating elements.

1972 -Bazil Cocksedge retires from active day-to-day involvement in the company after steering it from its formation in 1946.

1994 -BJC achieve accreditation to ISO 900 :2000 (Quality) and NZS 4801:2001 (Safety) Standards, underlining the Company's determination to become a competitive and world-class manufacturer of high-quality electrical elements and components.
